Ranking: Songs from Prince - Purple Rain (1984)

 When I really think about it, Purple Rain isn't my favorite Prince album.  Dirty Mind is.  But it is the album (and movie) that turned me from a casual Prince fan in to a die hard one. I talk a lot about "the moment" when it comes to an artists career.  Chances are they will never have that moment again.  Springsteen, Lauper, MJ's Thriller, all came out around the same time.  1983/84.  None of those artists came close to matching the success of those albums.  Neither did Prince with Purple Rain.  He could've.  If he wanted Prince could knock out hit singles in his sleep.  But he was too restless for the Pop charts.  Thus hindering his album sales.  Besides, Purple Rain had a hit movie to go along with it.  And he never came close to matching it.  So, Purple Rain it is.  Nine songs, 43 minutes.  The best crossover moments Prince had to offer,  He would have other moments, but not on a single album.
