TV Commercials

I liked the Phoenix song, "1901" when I first heard it, but it really came alive by being in a car commercial. Should I feel bad that commercials or TV programs are affecting my tastes? Not in this day and age of tons and tons of stuff to keep up with. Remember in the late 80's when having your song in a TV commercial meant you were selling out? Now heritage acts are all over the channels.
