I'll Always Love My Mama: Great Mother's Day Songs

When most people think of Mother's Day songs, sentimentality usually wins out.  I've got a few of those listed below, but also some that avoid the teardrops.

If I had to pick a favorite it would be "I'll Always Love My Mama" by the Intruders.  Written by Kenny Gamble/Leon Huff and McFadden & Whitehead (of "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" fame), and released on the Philadelphia International label in 1973, it was a minor Top 40 hit (#36) and Top 10 R&B one (#6).  I remember first hearing it when I lived in Germany in the early 70's.  It's got that uptempo Philly Soul that I've always loved.

Check it out:  "I'll Always Love My Mama" (Video)

Top 25 Most Loved (Living) Musicians

The criteria was pretty simple.  I wanted names that everyone knows.  Musicians who are loved by as close to 100% of music fans of all genres.

The deaths in the past few years of some of our most famous artists like Prince, B.B. King, David Bowie, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Tom Petty, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, Whitney Houston, etc., got me thinking about this subject.  How some of our most revered musicians are no longer with us.

1.  Paul McCartney
2.  Stevie Wonder
3.  Bruce Springsteen
4.  Bob Dylan
5.  Tina Turner
6.  Willie Nelson
7.  Dolly Parton
8.  Tony Bennett
9. Rolling Stones
10. Elton John
11. Quincy Jones
12. Barbra Streisand
13. Ringo Starr
14. Smokey Robinson
15  Little Richard
16. Brian Wilson
17. Diana Ross
18. Paul Simon
19. Loretta Lynn
20. Eric Clapton
21. Joni Mitchell
22. Al Green
23. Tom Jones
24  Jerry Lee Lewis
25. Neil Diamond
